The society expects students at the university or college levels to be able to provide solutions or innovation to problems facing them. It is ironic that a huge pile of garbage would lie next to a college or university offering environmental and health sciences or a large pothole in the middle of the road passing adjacent to the department of civil engineering. As MUSPPA2STEM we run hackathon session for these students to inculcate in them the need to empathize and provide practical solutions to the society.
Though hackathons are associated with computer programmers, in this context we are inviting students and out-of-school youths to some marathon sessions for problem hacking. These sessions are designed for at least one or two days and participants are encouraged to think of a problem, design and develop a solution. A hacker can work on a project for a long time from the conceptual stage, try out/pilot to product development.
